Wireshark is a network packet analyzer that will try to capture the network packet and display its data as detailed as possible. You can think of a network packet analyzer as a measuring device used to check what is happening inside a network cable, such as a voltmeter used by an electrician to check what is happening inside the power cable (but at a higher level, of course). In the past, such tools were very expensive, exclusive, or both. However, with Wireshark all that issue can be solved. Wireshark is probably one of the best open source package analyzers available today.
