eMule is a free peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing client for Microsoft Windows which was launched in 2002 as an alternative to eDonkey2000. Until now, eMule is one of the largest and most trusted P2P file clients in the world. eMule has advanced search features, check the files for corruption when downloading, preview feature when downloading, and a credit system to reward frequent uploads.
The first version of eMule appeared on the market in May 2002, with integrated support to connect to the popular eDoney and Kad networks. This application became very popular in the following years because of its ability to manage connections between users intelligently, make file transfers faster, safer files with automatic corruption recovery, use community awards to reward the best users, and use compressed transfers that allow users to save bandwidth. Another very popular feature is the ability to preview audio and video files whose downloads have not been completed.
The eMule user interface is relatively simple, with many visual cues about your current position and an easy way to manage your searches and downloads. The app offers 7 main categories where users will spend most of their time - Kad server list, list of eDonkey servers, Transfer, Search (which supports complex Boolean questions), Shared Files, Messages (You can make friends with people, exchange messages and see status online), IRC Clients and Statistics. The bottom of the application is dedicated to listing current transfers, and the application's adjustment options are easily accessed via the button in the upper left corner of the dashboard.
