Balabolka is a Text-To-Speech (TTS) software where the user can convert text to speech. Text on the screen can be saved into WAV, MP3, MP4, OGG, or WMA files. This program can read clipboard content, beside it can view text from multiple file text for the input such as TXT,AZW, AZW3, CHM, DjVu, DOC, EPUB, FB2, HTM, HTML, LIT, MOBI, ODT, PRC, PDF and RTF files, or you can write directly, adjust font and background colors, control readings from the tray system.
Various versions of Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) of being used by this app which allows the user to alter a voice's parameters, including rate and pitch. Users can apply special substitution lists to improve the voice's articulation quality.
Besides provides Clipboard monitoring tools, also available batch file converters, text extractors from files, file comparison functions, Google translators, subtitle converters, and magnifiers. You can activate the spell checker and view lists with spelling errors, repeat words, be punished or whole paragraphs throughout the text, and create bookmarks.
Synchronized text can be saved in an external LRC file or in an MP3 tag inside an audio file. When an audio file is played with the media player on a computer or other modern digital audio player, the text is displayed simultaneously with voice (same as the lyrics text when the song played).
The GUI is clean and pretty intuitive. It supports multiple languages and you can customize font formatting settings.
The speech quality produced by this app varies greatly, but you can have a big influence by choosing carefully read voices and changing settings so that you deal with pauses, speeds, and unusual words in the most efficient way. Even though Balabolka isn't perfect, it's very good, and in many cases as good, if not better, than similar paid applications.
During testing this app has not encountered any major problems , because Balabolka did not freeze, crash or error dialogs pop up. Leaves a small footprint on system performance, just a few resource of CPU and RAM is used. Considering a generous set of features and configuration parameters, Balabolka must meet the requirements of most users who are looking for reliable and multi-talented text-to-speech software applications.
