Freegate works by using an anti-censorship backbone, DynaWeb, DIT's P2P-like proxy network system. Freegate's capability as anti-censorship tool is further enhanced by a new encryption technique and advanced compression algorithm in the versions of 6.33 and next.
Installation and run
You just download it free and run the tool with no installation. Just double click the executable file you have downloaded. Your IE browser will launch to open the Dynaweb homepage. Type the address of the website you want to visit in the input box then click "Anonymous Surfing".
When the freegate runs in Proxy Mode by default it will automatically sets the IE proxy to 127.0.0.1:8580, and opens the Dynaweb web page in IE, regardless of your default browser settings. You can easily visit any website by typing in the address on the IE address bar directly, just like when you did not use the program.
Using firefox and other browsers
You only need to manually set the browser HTTP proxy to 127.0.0.1:8580 before you can surf the Internet. If you use Firefox, you can install the GProxy Add-on and use it to set up proxy easily.
Proxy Mode and Classic Mode
This application has two modes that are running, namely Proxy Mode and Classic Mode. In Proxy Mode which is the default, the program automatically sets the IE proxy. You can directly enter any URL in the Internet browser's address bar and visit the website safely. In Classic Mode, you do not need to set a proxy browser and can directly access the Dynaweb main page. You can then visit foreign websites safely through the Dynaweb home page. In Classic Mode, the layout and formatting of some websites may not be displayed correctly. We recommend the Proxy Mode for the best surfing experience. Some users prefer the classic mode to be reminded that he is surfing through Dynaweb.
